In either case, what I like about Calace's method is that, apart from its obvious and stated raison-d'etre of teaching you how to play the mandolin, it also introduces you to the various types of writing for the mandolin, by offering exercises LP) from, and reflecting on mandolin-writing as it appears in the actual literature.
So for me, as a composer, it was and still is truly invaluable to study Raffaele the Great, as a compendium, an encyclopedia-of-sorts of what's written for the mandolin, what the mandolin gets to play.
Lovely tunes! A new edition of the preludes has just been announced, from a Canadian publisher called Les Productions d'Oz. Cover looks nice, and the price is reasonable. But unfortunately the publisher's website gives no other information at all, except for the somewhat disturbing note "arr. Beer-Demander, F. Does that mean "arranged by"? One would like to know whether this is essentially a reprint of one of the two existing editions mentioned above, or represents a new edition of the text.
If the latter, what editorial material has been added or removed? Is the music fingered, for example? A serious description on the website would be very welcome. Or maybe a one-page sample showing the look and the kind of editorial material included. If anyone here has already made the plunge, please give us a report.
I have a copy of the new edition on order. Beer-Demander and Galluci are highly reputable; I personally have no concerns whatsoever an aside: the PMO will be doing a concert with Galluci this Saturday evening. There is a one page sample on the website at the top, where it says "Download pdf" or "Download GIF". It is appears to be newly typeset.

Their product is excellent. The sample page does not have fingering there is some fingering of some passages in the final book of the Calace method, if one needs it. There is another modern edition of some of the preludes with revisions by Ugo Orlandi published in Italy in the s; I have a copy of this but I am not certain if it is still in print. As Victor says, you can get xeroxes of the originals from the Calace firm.
