Read more. While there are, of course, some fairly well-known anthems present - the Masters At Work produced "Voices in My Mind" by Voices, and Kerri Chandler's brilliant "Ladbroke Grove", in particular - the vast majority of the veteran Essex DJ's "personal selections" will be unfamiliar to all but the most dedicated US garage and soulful house heads.
It was the beginning of a productive partnership between the Midlands techno titan and the similarly weighty German imprint. Tresor gathers together Child's three albums for the Berlin-based label, offering them in freshly re-mastered form. Disc one boasts the frenzied intensity and intergalactic freakiness of 's Basictonalvocabulary, while disc two hosts the jazzier loops, funkier samples and weirder ambient interludes of 98's Balance.
It consists of four long crackly, hypnotic, full-throttle workouts, including the uplifting, samba-tinged brilliance of "All The Heart of it All".
Here, they gather together these inspired, previously vinyl-only moments on CD for the first time, alongside a second disc of never before heard cuts. Of course, given Digweed's generally smooth, melodious and tactile style, "ripping it up" barely seems an appropriate description.
Certainly, he's in fine form, effortlessly building the mood and intensity across three hugely entertaining discs. So, while the first disc is deep, woozy and emotive - featuring Diggers' faves from the likes of Omid 16B, Cosmic Cowboys and Of Norway - things get darker, tougher, bouncier and chunkier on discs two and three.
Understandably, It's at this point that the crowd is at its' most rapturous. Too Slow To Disco Vol 2. Visionquest Ultraviolet I. To celebrate, they've put together this three-disc retrospective. Signals EP. Volen Sentir. LF D 09 Mar YAR R 1 29 Jul Song For Eva EP. This time round he's happily daydreaming about Brooklyn basements and New Jersey warehouses. He provides two versions of "Song For Eva": a deliciously glassy-eyed Joy (Danas Deep Down) - Janet Rushmore - Joy (Vinyl) Mix" full of "Show Me Love" style organ riffs, dreamy chords and rubbery synth-bass, and a rushing, piano-heavy "Brooklyn Rave Mix" that sounds like the sort of thing that Frankie Bones and company would have giddily played at their infamous Storm Rave parties.
Running Back regular Shan provides the obligatory remixes, first emphasizing the loved-up chords, melodies and bass on the fittingly titled "Sunrise Mix", before giving the track a massive peak-time kick up the arse on the stab-happy "3AM Pump Mix".
Kino Todo. Gidafi Na EP. BS 11 Oct The pair reinforce the skipping, lighter and feel good rhythms of KAB's original instrumentation of "Yamona" and pitch the timeless and iconic voice of Pat Thomas central to the mix, resulting in a peak time number of mass appeal.
Provincial Disturbance. Futureboogie Recordings. Their latest missive, which comes courtesy of former Disco Halal contributor Kincaid, is another. For us, the undisputed highlight is "Voices From The Year ", a hallucinatory chunk of slow house hedonism propelled forwards by angular acid lines, acid-trip electronics and feverish analogue synthesizer motofs.
The track that follows, "Entrance", is if anything even more trippy, with dark aural textures, sparse percussion hits and intergalactic acid motifs sashaying around a deep electro groove. Lead cut "Provincial Disturbance" is rather good, too - think snappy electro meets chugging dark disco - while Steve Urulu's remix of the same track is an insanely bass-heavy, bleep-inspired techno treat.
FBR 15 May We'll Be Together. He won particularly praise for his debut album, "Me", which dropped back in November. It comes backed with fresh flipside "Blu Lagoon", an enjoyable exercise in chunky, deep-tech delight, plus two new remixes of "We'll Be Together". Moscoman hits all the right notes on his picturesque, melodious, analogue-rich revision - all grandiose deep space chords, starburst synths and chunky bass - while Francesco Mami's version is an altogether darker, tougher and more hypnotic take.
CRM 22 May Fatoe Morgana. Arguably best of all though is opener "Fatoe Morgana", a throbbing, Joy (Danas Deep Down) - Janet Rushmore - Joy (Vinyl) action mix of razor-sharp acid riffs, rising synthesizer motifs, drowsy chords and restless but sturdy grooves. AUS D 21 Feb Look Like. Garden Of Eden. Do You Love? Experience the second summer of love all over again on "Do You Love Me" and feel the vibe of his emotive electro on "Nokia Nostalgia".
Don't Let Get You Down. Predictably they've once again hit the spot, confidently combining deep house musicality, the far-sighted synthesizer motifs of sci-fi techno, African style percussion, dewy-eyed and often soulful vocals, and occasional forays into drowsy downtempo beats and fizzing electro rhythms.
The results are naturally impressive, offering an imaginative and colourful sound palette befitting of both men's talents. Highlights include the sparse electronic soul of "Depth Has a Focus", the body-popping beats and low-end weight of "Little Man" and the futuristic soulful house brilliance of "Tonight".
